It’s that four letter word again.

One of the most loaded words in the English language. I guess we all have our own version of what that means.

For me it evokes 2 very different feelings.

One is the idea of paying my dues. The things I have to do to earn my keep or to justify being here.

In my mind this is analogous to that idea of original sin we carry in our culture like a bag of old shite. It’s been passed down through so many generations that we’ve forgotten to even ask what it’s for. It’s the idea that we are somehow tainted and we must struggle endlessly to purify ourselves through struggle and sacrifice.

The second is a feeling of purpose. My work is what I get to bring to the world. The chance to serve something greater than myself, not through self sacrifice, but by exploring and expressing myself in its truest form. This work is about finding my essential, beautiful nature and sharing it in a way that helps others do the same. It is built on the idea that I have inherent value, as an expression of life. In my opinion all great work comes from this place.

When I focus too much on what’s going on outside of me I tend to drift towards the first kind of work.

But when I come home to myself, breathe and become still, the other kind of work reveals itself. I am filled with a sense of purpose and enthusiasm.

In this space I don’t need motivation, I don’t feel tired, I am driven by a deep and plentiful source of energy.

And it feels good!
